The Art of Social Influencing

As an existing client of Living Group, we were invited to present at this year’s annual CFA Institute Global Society Leaders Conference, at a series of workshops on ‘The Art of Social Influencing’. We were tasked with inspiring over 200 delegates across three sessions to enhance their brand ‘You’, affirming their position as a CFA Institute Society brand ambassador.

Living Group has been working with the President and CEO of CFA Institute for over six months and we used this as the basis to showcase what it takes to become a social media influencer. Leaders and Living Group alike were treated to the CEO and President making a guest appearance in the audience.

Using our insights and practical experience gained from enhancing and positioning CFA Institute, CEO and President as a global social influencer, we focused on two key areas of creating difference: content creation (words & images) and content engagement (interaction).

Developing brand ‘You’

Leaders were challenged to get involved in ‘the art of social influencing’ through interactive sessions that saw them think differently about how best to portray themselves in their social media biographies – who are you, what do you do and why do you matter to me?’ - balancing their Society Leader status with their professional work status.

A little less liking, a little more action please

Part of the session focused on the ability to have greater share of voice by posting your ‘point of view’ on posts, rather than just ‘liking’ or ‘sharing’… you don’t always have to generate your own content!

The key takeaways from the sessions were to: remain front of mind, make meaningful connections and most importantly to be in control of their online reputation by being authentic, intentional, relevant, responsive and confident.

As part of the attendees ongoing learning & development, we also created a best practice hints & tips guide to social influencing to allow learnings to be applied, post session.

What does success look like?

Participants were encouraged to rate our session on the conference App and we were delighted to be told we scored an average 4.5 stars out of 5!
